Approach
My approach is based in Jungian psychology with a focus on the subconscious and the symbolic; expressive arts therapy which combines talk therapy with imagery, art making, storytelling, tarot, dreamwork, movement and sound to help communicate what exists beyond words; attachment theory which explores early childhood relationships and emotionally focused therapy which helps to build intimacy and vulnerability between partners. I view healing through a collective lens and am involved in community-based healing arts practices that focus on transformation within individuals and groups in relation to each other, the non-human world and the earth.
I specialize in working with women and femme-identified people, first generation, immigrant and refugee communities, sex positive and polyamorous relationships, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and creatives. I acknowledge how systemic oppression and violence affects these communities and hold a loving container for your experience.
Together we will explore the unconscious lands of your feelings and choices, examine the invisible patterns that have influenced your life, while using the creative tools of imagery, dreamwork, ritual, somatics, symbolism and storytelling to cultivate connection, self awareness and empowerment, choose your next steps with clarity and live your life with freedom.
I work somatically, meaning I acknowledge our bodies as a source of knowing, wisdom and medicine, and allow the felt experiences of the body to guide the healing process. I celebrate the wisdom of my clients, acknowledge them as the experts of their own experience and offer a therapeutic space that is anti-racist, culturally informed and affirming of Trans and Queer people.
I seek to question the idea of authority and power in the relationship that exists between client and therapist, empowering the client to lead, find their voice and trust that their life experience is as valuable as my counseling education. I believe in the power of relatability, self-disclosure when appropriate, mutual healing and equality in the therapeutic relationship. I acknowledge how the social impacts of racism, homophobia, class disparity, xenophobia and gender binaries have historically been pathologized in the mental health field and I hold a firm loving container for the experiences of trauma they inflict.
